About the course:
The qualification is suited for those who have managerial, assistant managerial positions or work in the health and social care environment. It enables those that fall in the category to obtain a higher qualification level. The course provides students with the opportunity to further develop both their managerial and care skills whilst meeting the criteria needed to progress to become a manager in children’s homes, residential homes or domiciliary services.
Course Structure:
The course consists of mandatory and optional units. The programme pathways are tailored to the students work role and work setting
This course comprises of mandatory and optional units. Students are expected to obtain at least 90 credits in order to qualify for this award.
The criteria are as follows:
- All six units from mandatory group A totalling 30 credits;
- The core mandatory units (groups B1, C1, D1, E1, F1, G1) for the selected pathway;
- The remaining units to be chosen from the groups for the selected pathway
Course Content:
The mandatory units include the following titles:
- Professional Practice in Children’s Care
- Learning and Development Support Children’s Care
- Learning and Development in the Early Years
- Use and develop systems that promote communication
- Promote professional development
- Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
- Develop health and safety, and risk management
- policies procedures and practices
- Working in partnership
- Understand child and young person development
- Lead practice that supports positive outcomes for children’s development
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to support safeguarding
What are the entry requirements?
Student must hold a level 3 qualifications and GCSE grade C or functional skills level 2 in English.
Assessment Method:
Portfolio of Evidence. This qualification is internally assessed and internally quality assured by Centre staff and externally quality assured by awarding body
For this course, there are a variety of ways in which students will be assessed which are listed below. Each assessment format assesses your skills and progression throughout the course. Due to the nature of the course, you will be able to discuss and relate real experiences to your assessment.

Qualification: Level 5 Leadership For Health & Social Care Services and Children’s & Young Peoples Services (England).
Course Duration: The course lasts for approximately 12 – 24 months. This varies due to the level of support required for each learner and previous experience.
Course Mode: Part time
Start Dates: Every September /April. For those studying Adult care through the apprenticeship route, there is no set time. Student can start the course at any time.
Progression route?
Through achieving this qualification you will be able to progress onto a managerial role and this qualification be accepted for registration and regulation. By taking the course, you will be able to show that you are consciously seeking professional development.
Course Costs: The course fee is £4,670.00. However, some students may be eligible for the loan facility which may be used to pay for the course. For more information about the loan, feel free to contact us. This fee does not apply to apprenticeship students.
